4 FACIAL MASSAGE MOVES TO HELP SINUS ISSUES

A lot of us suffer from sinus issues, particularly if they we have allergies or are suffering from a cold. And while you should always seek medical advice, there are times when you need quick relief from the pressure that can build up in the sinus area.

So if you suffer from blocked sinuses or maybe you get sinus pain, the exercises I’m going to show you will really help. But it’s also a really good way to keep your sinuses nice and healthy and to help brighten the cheek area so even if you don’t have real issues with your sinuses right now, I really recommend you do these regularly.

BEFORE WE START

Remember, these are not a substitute for any medical advice and, also,  if you feel any pain while you’re doing it, please stop immediately.

You’ll want to make sure that your face and hands are clean before starting. Ideally, you’ll want to use an oil-based facial serum to help your fingers glide easily over your skin as you perform the sinus massage.

FACIAL MASSAGE ROUTINE FOR SINUS ISSUES

Now that you’ve washed your hands and grabbed your serum, we’re ready to start the massage. Make sure you’re in a quiet place and are comfortable.

#1: CHEEK MASSAGE

Start by taking your hands and putting them just below the cheekbone area, right beside your nostrils. Taking your thumb or index finger, you’re going to slide upwards and outwards. You want to go right up to the point where your hairline starts.

This is going to help clear those sinuses. As you do this, breathe in and out through the nose. If it feels a bit restricted, use your mouth a little bit. Really try and relax the rest of your face whilst you’re doing this.

This is a really nice technique for my book Danielle Collins Face Yoga. It’s one of the key techniques I recommend for sinus issues.

You’ll want to do this move for about one minute before moving on to the next move.

#2: NOSTRIL MASSAGE

Next, take your index fingers and come to the little point just on either side of your nose, right where your nostril connects your nose to your face. Apply light pressure for a few minutes. Breathe, hold, and just relax. Close your eyes and if you can, breathe through the nose and out through the nose.

If it feels a bit blocked in the nose as you do this, don’t worry. As you release it should feel unblocked. This move opens everything else a little bit and everything becomes easier.

Keeping your index fingers in the same place, get into the circle gently and start to circle one way and then the other way, nice and gently.

This technique is going to help to clear out the sinus area.

#3: CHEEK PINCH

Taking your thumb and index finger, start lightly pinching up and away along your cheekbones. Keep doing this for a few minutes.

This technique is really nice if you’ve got a lot of blockage in the sinus area.

By having circulation in this area, you can unblock your sinuses with ease.

Good skin health is all about circulation and energy. So whenever we can help your energy or improve your chi on your skin is a good thing.

And also, these types of techniques are going to help boost the circulation in your skin.

#4: EYE INDENTATION

For our final move, take your index fingers and just gently place them into the inner corner of your eye where there’s a natural indentation. Close your eyes again and breathe deeply.

This is very good if you get a lot of pressure in your sinuses. Press lightly for a few seconds. Then take your thumbs and place them on that indentation and just slide across the bottom of your eyebrow bone. Do this for about 3-4 times. As you’re sliding, press lightly.

Now you can bring your hands down and rest them in your lap.

And that’s it. If you prefer to follow along with a video, I’ve filmed this entire routine and it is available for free via my YouTube channel.
