10 ways to look and feel fresh and glowing this spring

Spring is here, and I am loving the feel of lighter mornings, brighter days, and the sight of beautiful flowers blooming all around. 

As this time of the year approaches, I like to focus extra attention on taking care of my skin, body, and mind. Today, I’ve wrapped up my top 10 tips for taking care of yourself this season, including ways to get glowing skin, a more relaxed body, and release stress from your mind.

 

1. EXPERIENCE NATURE EVERY DAY

Your eyes need exposure to daylight to help improve your circadian rhythm and promote better sleep at night. Daylight plays a big role in our energy levels, so getting some sunshine early in the morning can help you feel amazing throughout the day.

The goal should be to wake up in the morning feeling energized, head outdoors for a morning walk, and give yourself at least 10 minutes of natural light exposure, so your eyes and mind are receiving the signal that it’s time to wake up and embrace the day. 

2. START SPRING CLEANING

I’m a firm believer that our external environment influences how we feel inside. When we have a clean, fresh space, we’ll feel much happier and peaceful within as well.

So, open the windows, let some fresh air in, and get the duster out! Have fun as you listen to music and dance about, removing any dust, dirt, and clutter that’s accumulated over the last season.

I also suggest taking a close look at your wardrobe. In fact, this could be the perfect place to start! Here’s a fun challenge: find just one section of your wardrobe, like t-shirts, and lay out all of the clothing.

If you’re holding onto anything you don’t love, need, or regularly use, consider donating it instead. This frees up space in your life and gives someone else an opportunity to enjoy something new.

3. FOREST BATHE

Forest bathing is a beautiful process of completely immersing yourself in nature, being surrounded by trees, a clear sky, and listening to the sound of nature happening all around you.

You’ll walk mindfully and breathe in deeply, absorbing the magnificent life force energy from the trees. Look up and admire the sun, the birds, the clouds, and you’ll be amazed at how this changes your perspective.

Regular forest bathing is an incredible way to rejuvenate your spirit and truly connect with the world around you.

4. BRING FRESH FLOWERS INTO YOUR HOME

Buy yourself flowers! It’s a beautiful gift that can bring warmth, joy, and happiness into your home. 

Fresh flowers help improve your mindset and wellness as well by adding a lovely touch of nature into your personal space.

5. GO BAREFOOT OUTDOORS

Earthing, as it’s often called, is a wonderful practice to help ground your mind and body. If you have a green area, even better.

Stand with your feet hip-width apart, toes spread, and raise your arms above your head as you inhale deeply. Imagine yourself gathering energy and bringing it close to your body as you bring your hands together into a prayer gesture in front of your chest.

This is a wonderful exercise to start your day with, but it truly works well anytime,

6. HYDRATE

Water is an essential life force, and we all can benefit from more H20 in our lives. In addition to regular water, I also suggest drinking hot mint tea. You can buy it in satchels from the shop, but I absolutely love making it with fresh herbs and hot water.

Add mint to a cup, and pour hot water over it. This hydrates and cleanses the body and mind, leading to fresher skin and a calmer mindset.

7. SHAKE YOUR BODY

Shaking out stress is a great practice that helps regulate your emotions. Start with your arms, then your legs, and twist your body a bit to help loosen any energy that’s become trapped in your body.

Shaking helps move your qi, or life force energy, throughout the body. 

I also suggest taking a loose fist and tapping your body. Anywhere you feel drawn to tap can help further balance your energy and make you feel incredible.

8. LIGHTEN UP YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE

Wintertime is when many of us rely on heavy creams, but spring is a season to lighten the load.

Consider switching to a light moisturising serum, which will hydrate and regenerate skin cells without clogging your pores.

Try it: With clean hands, lightly come behind the ears with all of your fingers, and smooth gently down toward your collarbone. Then, do a soft pulsing motion that will help open the lymph vessels to open and remove impurities.

I like to think of lymphatic drainage as spring cleaning for our bodies.

10. MOVE YOUR SPINE

If you spend many hours a day seated at a desk, you may suffer from lots of tension and even poor posture.

Moving the spine helps release stress and tension. The best way I like to do it is by moving to all fours and performing the cat-cowl position. Inhale deeply, curl the spine as you bring your chin to your neck, then release by lowering the chest and lifting the chin so it’s level with your shoulders.
