Social media is a fantastic tool to help you connect with your audience, grow your business, and increase your sales. But it can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when you’re first getting started.
I’ve been teaching Face Yoga, Yoga, Meditation, and Wellness for over 17 years now. In that time, I’ve grown my social media following to almost a million people across all my platforms. So, in this post, I want to use some of that experience to help you improve your social media as a wellness entrepreneur.
I’m sharing three different forms of content you can post on social media, with tips and ideas to help you make the most of each type of content.
These are simple ways to grow your social media following, connect with your soulmate clients, and build your wellness business.
1. Short-Form Video
Video is really having a moment right now and short-form videos in particular are doing well across lots of different social media channels.
These are videos that are between a few seconds and a minute in length. You can use them on all sorts of different platforms – whether it’s TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, or even Pinterest.
Short-form videos are simple and easy to create. My top tip is not to overcomplicate them. Lots of people are daunted by the idea of creating short videos, but this doesn’t need to be at all difficult.
Just get in the habit of recording little snippets of your day as you do what you do. Use your phone to record short bits of footage, and then share them on your social media platforms. You can always add text or music over the top too.
For example, you could share your favourite yoga poses, or do a little video of you out on a walk. You could do a quick behind-the-scenes of you at work, or a little snippet of a class or workshop you’re leading. You could even just share the smoothie bowl you had for breakfast.
Once you’ve recorded a little video, maximise your reach by using it across all your different social media platforms.
2. Long-Form Video
Although the big focus at the moment is on short-form video, long-form video is another great format to use on your social media platforms. So, I suggest using this content type as well to help you grow your business and maximise your sales.
Long-form videos are especially good for building your relationship with your followers. They are a great way for people to get to know, like, and trust you.
There are a few different options for long-form videos. One is to go live – either by yourself or alongside another wellness expert. Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube all have a live option.
Lives are great because your audience can engage with you in real time. Plus, you can also save the recordings and either leave the whole video up for people to watch later or chop it up to make several short-form videos.
You can also pre-record a long-form video, which is what I do for the videos on my YouTube channel. These are ideal for showcasing what you do and providing value for your followers.
Again, you can then use snippets of longer videos to create short-form videos, which you can post on lots of different channels.
Pre-recorded long-form videos also form a great basis for other content types. For example, you could pull out some of your top tips and turn them into a blog post or use the audio to create a podcast episode.
Now, lots of people say that photos are dead on social media, and it is all about video. And yes, to a certain extent this might be the case. Most platforms are prioritising video content right now and it seems to be what people enjoy seeing too.
However, I think there’s still a place for photos. There can be real beauty in sharing a well-crafted picture.
You can use professional shots, or just post candid photos taken as you go about your day. Use them in your feed on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. And don’t underestimate the impact of using photos in your Instagram and Facebook stories too.
Like with short-form videos, there’s no need to overcomplicate sharing photos on social media. You can just capture behind-the-scenes shots as you go through your normal day. These sneak peeks into your day-to-day life can really help people engage and connect with you.
Other Tips for Social Media Success
Now that we’ve taken a quick look at how to use these three different content types to engage people on social media, I just want to add a couple of other tips to help you grow your following and market your business.
First, post as regularly and as consistently as you can. Social media rewards regular engagement, which is why I encourage you not to overthink things. It’s better to get something out there than to hold back because you’re worried that it isn’t 100% perfect.
Secondly, use a combination of all three of these different forms of content. This gives your audience plenty of variety to engage with and keeps things interesting.
For example, on my Instagram and Facebook accounts, I mainly focus on posting short-form videos, since that’s what works well at the moment. However, I also aim to post a picture and a long-form video each week so that there’s always a variety of content types for people to enjoy.
