BLOG 246: HERE'S THE SUPPLEMENTS I TAKE EVERY DAY FOR MY SKIN, MIND AND BODY
Dec 20, 2023I take a lot of supplements! I want to start by saying these are really personal to me. It is also important to mention that I am trained in nutrition plus most of them have been recommended to me by nutrition professionals. You must only take what is right for you as every body is so different.
I did a poll on my Instagram stories yesterday asking if my community would like to know what I take and I was amazed by how many thousands of you voted and it was an overwhelming YES! So I thought I would put this in a blog so you have all the brand names and information in one place. None of the supplements mentioned here are sponsored and the only ones with an affiliate code (and a discount for you) are the ones by Rejuvenated (use code DC for 10% off site wide). Rejuvenated gifted me these and I have been so thrilled with them that I take them every day and I love recommending them so much.
So let's explore my daily routine.
B Vitamin Complex
I take a brand called Solgar and B vitamins are essential for my energy levels and stress response. B Vitamins play a key role in converting food into energy and supporting our nervous system.
Vitamin C
I have been taking the Vitamin C supplement by Bio Health for over a decade. I take vitamin C as it is a potent antioxidant that supports our immune system, helping our body fight off infections. It is also essential for aiding in collagen synthesis for our skin health.
Probiotic
I change my probiotic about once a year to expose my gut to a variety of good bacteria. Currently I am taking a brand called Optibac which I have tried many times over the years and I also regularly buy the children's version of it for my girls too. Taking a probiotic introduces beneficial bacteria to the gut, promoting a balanced microbiome, supporting digestion and overall immune function.
Zinc
I have been taking zinc for about 2 years now and I find the Holland and Barrett Zinc to be a really good one. Zinc is essential for our immune function and wound healing. It also plays a role in our DNA synthesis and cell division.
Vitamin D
If you live in the UK, it isn't possible to get Vitamin D from the sun in the months of November to February so I double my dose from supplements during this time. I use the Better You brand which comes in a convenient spray. I like to choose the one with K2 for absorption. Vitamin D is crucial for a well-functioning immune system and helps regulate calcium and phosphorus absorption for bone health.
Ashwagandha
I have been taking Ashwagandha for 2 years as it is an adaptogenic herb that may help balance hormones and reduce stress by regulating cortisol levels. I have been thrilled to now find a blend of Ashwagandha with Suma (Pfaffia) powder, Hops, Hemp, Alfalfa, R eishi mushroom, Schisandra berry, Red clover, Selenium and Vitamin B6 by Rejuvenated. This blend is designed to help PMS and Peri Menopause. Use code DC for 10% off at checkout.
DIM
DIM (Diindolylmethane) supports oestrogen metabolism and may help maintain hormonal balance. It is particularly beneficial before menstruation. I take this because I did a full DUTCH test via Pippa Campbell Health where my hormones were tested each day for a month. I have excess oestrogen in the lead up to my period so take I DIM from day 20 of my cycle for 8 days.
Adrenal Rebuilder
Again, this was personally prescribed to me by a medical professional following a complex hormonal test. I take a brand called Adrenal Rebuilder by Dr Wilson which contains nutrients and glandulars to support my adrenal health, potentially aiding in stress management, hormonal regulation and energy levels.
Evening Primrose with Starflower Oil
I have taken the brand Seven Seas for a few years. I definitely knew I needed this when I went 2 months without it and all my breast pain returned! As it is rich in gamma-linolenic acid, it really alleviates breast soreness in the week before my period and promotes hormonal balance.
Fish Oil
I also use the Seven Seas brand for my fish oil. Fish oil is high in omega-3 fatty acids which support brain health, reduce inflammation, and contribute to our cardiovascular well-being.
Magnesium
I started taking the Nutri Advanced magnesium after a blood test which showed I needed more magnesium. Since taking it every night right before bed, my magnesium levels are now optimum. Magnesium is essential for muscle function, aids in relaxation and for me, really improves my sleep quality.
Collagen
I have taken a collagen supplement for around 4 years now and it is a game changer for my skin. I take the Rejuvenated brand every evening. Use code DC at checkout for 10% off. Collagen supports our skin elasticity and hydration, promotes joint health, and aids in hair and nail strength.
Rehydration sachet
Each day I take a rehydration powder with Ionic Minerals, Trans Resveratrol, Hyaluronic Acid, and Inulin by Rejuvenated (use code DC for 10% off a checkout). Taking this helps me fully hydrate in a way that plain water cannot and it really contributes to my skin health, antioxidant protection, and gut support.
To conclude, these supplements are really personal to me and please remember with all these supplements, consult a medical professional before using.
