BLOG 85: 3 WAYS TO NATURALLY REDUCE CHEST WRINKLES
Aug 13, 2021One of the great benefits of Face Yoga is it gives you the tools to focus on areas of the skin that tend to be forgotten. The chest is another area of the body that is often overlooked when it comes to skincare, yet it is a very delicate area that should be properly taken care of.
Today I am going to share with you some effective ways for you to reduce chest wrinkles and have healthier skin to prevent them in the future. Follow these ways to reduce chest wrinkles using natural, holistic techniques.
1. DAILY MASSAGE
This may sound like a very luxurious way to care for your skin, but similar to how massage can comfort and rejuvenate your muscles and joints, it can also work wonders for your skin.
In the case of your chest (and many other skincare focal points), your muscles and skin are actually very much related. It all comes back to posture.
Any tension you carry in your shoulder muscles affects your posture in a negative way. When we slump over with bad posture, it causes the skin on our chest to crease and decreases circulation. This can accelerate the appearance of wrinkles and even change the tone of your skin colour.
Daily massage only takes a few minutes of your day and it really helps. It is fairly easy to incorporate it into your morning or evening skincare routines.
Getting started, you want to apply a little bit of massage oil or Fusion by Danielle Collins Moisturising Serum, which offers an ideal combination of oil and moisturiser for the purposes of these skincare exercises.
Apply a couple of drops of serum to your chest area and a little on your shoulders.
Now, we are going to start by releasing the tightness in our shoulders. Reach one hand across your chest and onto the top of your shoulder. Gently rub your hand on your skin downward until your fingertips reach your collarbone.
Use a gentle yet firm motion that feels right for you. You may decide to apply some pressure with your hand as if you are grabbing your shoulder. Continue this motion several times on one shoulder and then repeat the same on the other side.
This part of the massage improves circulation to your chest and allows you to achieve a straighter posture.
Next, you are going to alternate gliding your hands horizontally across the top of your chest from the centre outward. Your left hand glides left, right hand glides right, and repeat.
This part of the massage is a very gentle motion that helps the serum to penetrate deeper into the skin, maximising the benefits of its antioxidants, vitamins, and other ingredients. Rose-hip oil, one of the components in Fusion by Danielle Collins Serum, is proven to reduce the effects of sun damage and regenerate new, healthier skin cells.
After that, place your hands into fists. Place them together in the centre of your chest and pull them away from each other, outward across the chest. As you do so, apply pressure to your chest with your knuckles. This motion is very soothing and releases pressure and tension, especially in the muscle between your ribs.
From there, you can use two fingers (your pointer and middle fingers together) to spot massage any areas on your chest that are tender or sore. Apply pressure with your two fingers and massage the areas in a circular motion.
Lastly, we want to target the chest area between the breasts because it can be quite prone to creasing. In the middle of your chest, gently glide your hands from the bottom to the top. As you do this last part of the massage, take a few deep breaths to increase circulation and relieve tension.
2. USE A CHEST PILLOW
The daily massage is a fantastic way to rejuvenate your skin and make it look healthier. As a preventative measure for chest wrinkles, I highly recommend using a chest pillow while you sleep.
You may have not heard of a chest pillow before, but I have been wearing one while I sleep for over a year and a half and I wish I started sooner. If you are a side sleeper like I am, then you have probably woken up and noticed some wrinkles that developed from the night before. That is exactly what a chest pillow prevents.
Similar to how bad posture can create creases in the middle of your chest, your sleeping posture will do the same. Creases created while sleeping can be even worse because of the nature of our sleeping positions.
The positive effects of using a chest pillow happen quickly after you start. It’s also super comfortable to sleep with. I use a great chest pillow from Sleep & Glow, which was kindly gifted to me and I recommend it wholeheartedly. 3. USE A BODY GUA SHA
I incorporate the use of a Gua Sha, which is a traditional Chinese massage tool, in a lot of my Face Yoga exercises. The Gua Sha is ideal for releasing tension, soothing any neck or shoulder pain, and it helps your skin maintain elasticity.
Gua Sha are made from all kinds of materials. The one I recommend using for your body is made of stainless steel material that is specially designed for use on the neck, shoulders, chest, and upper back.
With the Gua Sha of your choice, you are going to massage the side of your neck (though positioned slightly toward the back) down to your shoulder with the curved part of it. Gently glide it from the top of your neck down several times before switching to the other side. This is really effective for releasing tension and feels incredibly soothing.
Now we will want to move to the chest area. Glide the Gua Sha from the middle of your chest outward at a 45-degree angle. So, it will almost be like you are moving the Gua Sha from between your breasts across your chest toward your shoulder. Repeat this several times and then again on the opposite side.
Note that this massage technique may create some redness on the skin, which is perfectly normal. Gua Sha is proven to effectively increase circulation in the skin. As mentioned before, increased circulation is extremely important in reducing wrinkles.
You can easily incorporate the use of Gua Sha into your daily massage. You can also watch my YouTube video.
