Finding lines or wrinkles on your face can be frustrating. You may be tempted to make an appointment for a botox treatment, but don’t just yet.

There are ways you can naturally fill lines without injectables. Today, I talk about how you can naturally smooth wrinkles for more youthful and supple skin.

PRACTICE FACE RELAXATION

Repeated facial expressions are one of the many culprits for facial wrinkles — especially in your forehead.

Whenever you frown and squint, you use the muscles in your forehead and between your brows. We sometimes tense these muscles without even thinking — you may even doing it right now.

Overusing the muscles in our face causes them to weaken, thus causing wrinkles. The key here is to stop the muscles from tensing. To do this, retrain your facial muscles to relax.

For example, instead of using your forehead muscles to show expression, learn how the muscles around your eyes.

Here’s how you can do it:

ā—¸      Look in a mirror and gently place your hand over your forehead.

ā—¸      Open your eyes as wide as you can.

ā—¸      Next, look up and down without moving your head.

ā—¸      If you notice that your forehead muscles tense when you do this, try to relax them.

ā—¸      Repeat this exercise twice a day for one minute.

 START FROM WITHIN

When we talk about smoothing wrinkles, we often think about topical or external solutions. But wrinkle treatment starts from the inside out. Self-care and proper nutrition are two components that help you achieve beautiful and glowing skin.

Here are a few ways you can use self-care and diet to get rid of wrinkles:

NUTRITION

What you eat has an effect on your skin. Things like refined sugar, caffeine, alcohol are known to age your skin. Also, dairy is another food group that may cause inflammation and skin distress. Never cut out whole food groups without consulted a doctor or nutrition expert first however.

For beautiful skin, load your diet with anti-inflammatory foods like berries, leafy green vegetables, seeds and nuts. These foods will provide you with nutrients that help you keep your skin healthy.

YOGA

The signs of emotional and mental stress show up on your face. Chronic stress increases your cortisol levels which breaks down your skin’s collagen. The less collagen your skin produces, the more wrinkles you will have.

Yoga is a great technique for stress relief. Not only does it make you feel good but it helps fight premature ageing.

PREVENT SUN DAMAGE

Sun exposure is a detriment to your skin. Excessive sun exposure not only causes premature ageing and wrinkles, but it also increases your risk of developing skin cancer.

That’s why it’s important to wear sunscreen every day — regardless of the season. Aim to wear a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more. Also, be sure to protect the delicate skin around your eyes by wearing sunglasses.

MASSAGE YOUR FACE

When it comes to smoothing wrinkles, collagen is the key player. Massaging your face helps to boost collagen levels and reduce the look of fine lines.

One simple way you can massage your face is by using facial tools. A gua sha or jade/rose quartz roller are excellent tools to use for facial massages.
